J. Walding, widow, Newton, Alabama. No. des. list. - Verified February
3, 1865. Claim filed February 10, 1863.
*ADAH lists records for James J. (I.) Walding and James S. Walding. The enlistment date for James J. is given as 3 July 1861, date of death 9 April 1863 at Richmond, age 20 at enlistment, born in Georgia. Another ADAH record for James J. gives the above claim information by widow Sarah J. The date of this claim (10 February 1863) is prior to the death date given for James J. (I.) on the other record. A separate ADAH record exists for James S. Walding. The information on the record of James S. matches the information in a Walding family database for James Clarence Walding, son of John Alexander Walding. I cannot account for the differences between these records. The 1860 Dale County Census lists only one man named James Walding. He is 21, with wife Sarah J., 17, living next door to parents John and Anna Walding.
