Known to Piers Gaveston, friend of Edward II, as "The Black Dog of Arden" -- a
name which Gaveston daringly called him to his face when Warwick captured him in 1312.
Warwick and the Earl of Lancaster engineered Gaveston's death in a mock trial held
on Blacklow Hill between Warwick and Kenilworth.
