Resided in Clogher, Tyrone County, Ulster, Ireland before emigrating to Virginia
sometime between 1723 and 1732.
Elder in the Presbyterian Church. James and Eleanor lived in the South
River Settlement (present day Lynchburg) along the James River.
WILL OF JAMES GIBSON:
In the name of God Amen. I James Gibson of Bedford County, being of sound and
disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in
manner and form following that is to say I will that all my debts and funeral
charges be paid and discharged by my son James Gibson
Item. I give and bequeath to my son Randall Gibson one Negrow named Bumboro to
him and his heirs for ever.
Item. I give and bequive to my daughter Elizabeth Candler teen pounds current
mony to heir and her heirs for ever.
Item. I give and bequive to my daughter Jane -- teen pounds current
mony to heir and her heirs for ever.
Item. I give and bequive to my daughter Catherine Hale teen pounds current mony
to heir and her heirs for ever.
Item. I give and bequive to my daughter Hanner Cook teen pounds current mony to
heir and her heirs for ever.
Item. I give and bequive to my son in law Josiah Gibson five shilings current
mony to him.
Item. I give and bequive to the ears [heirs] of my son John Gibson deceased five
shilings current mony to them & their ears [heirs].
Item. I give and bequive to the sons of my son Archbell Gibson deceased five
shilings current mony to them & their ears [heirs].
Item. I give and bequive to my son James Gibson all my hole estate of every
thing both real and personal, nevertheless my will and desire is that my son
James Gibson pay of the above legaries at the expration of twelve monts after
being duly proved as is directed and if my son James Gibson shall die without
heire then my desire is that the remainder of his estate be equally divided
among my children one with another and my desire is that my son James Gibson
shall injoy all my hole estate to him and his heirs, Ext's, administrators and
assines for ever.
Lastly this my last will and testament hereby disannulling and disallowing all
other will or wills here to fore dated, sealed with my seal and dated this
fourteenth day of Apral one thousand seven hundred and sixty four.
