died: Assassinated 21 February 1436/37 in Perthshire
Only surviving son of Robert III, he was sent to France for safety from rebellious nobles. The ship was siezed by England and James was impriosned until 1423. In 1424 he returned to Scotland and was crowned -- 18 years after his succession to the throne.
