In June 1753 he bought a home from John Phelps and his wife Mary Phelps,
parents of Sarah Phelps, in
Lunenburg County, Virginia. Henry Haynes witnessed the deed. "In
consideration of the sum of 40 (pounds) current money of Va., one tract or
parcel of land lying in ye county of Lunenburg and including some of ye braches
of LIttle Alter Creek, containing 324 acres of land more or less with home,
woods, water, etc."
After the Revolutionary War, John and brothers Parmenas and Henry went
to Wilkes County, Georgia along with nephews Henry and Parmenas English (sons of
their sister Dinah). The land bought in 1753 was sold in 1762 to Wm.
Swanson. This part of Lunenburg County became Bedford County in 17854.

Records: Phelps Haynes and John Payne lawful heirs to estate of John Haynes,
deceased, etc. 1802 - Thomas Haynes and Henry Haynes applied for temporary
letters as administrators for the estate of John Haynes died without will.

Military Service: Served as Sergeant in Capt. Throgmorton's Company of Regulars. Enlisted 4 March 1777, discharged March 1780 in Bottetourt Co., also on the roll of Capt. Jesse Reddick's Co., 4th Virginia Regulars. He received a land grant for service in the war: "I do hereby certify that John Haynes proved to this court he served in Captain Throgmorton's Company of Regulars last war as a soldier till same was disbanded and that never before proved such service nor obtained any land in consideration thereof under the King of Great Britain's proclamation of 1763." On reverse: "I assign my right to Isiah Christian and desire Warrant to issue in his name." Signed John Haynes, W. Hamilton, Teste. |
