Was made K.B. at the marriage of Prince Arthur, eldest son of Henry V, in 1501.  He was in the Staffordshire Contingent in France and accompanied Henry VII in his expedition into Brittany.  Was present at the seiges of Terrouenne and Tournay.  For his bravery at the Battle of Spurs (1513, on the border between France and the Netherlands) he was made knight banneret by King Henry VIII on the field of battle.
