1820 Emanuel County Georgia Census: Lemon Worsley with 1 male 18-25, 1
male over 45, 1 female 10-16, 1 female over 45, 2 male slaves. He
is living 3 households away from Eli Yates. Eli Yates also owned land in
Montgomery County, and later moved to Fayette County.
Warrant dated the 3rd day of July 1826, Emanuel County; surveyed the 24th day of
October 1826 for Lemons Wesley who resides in this State a tract of two hundred
acres of pine land bounded on all sides by vacant land. Advertised the 28th
October 1826; surveyed by John Love C.S. (Emanuel County, Georgia, Superior
Court Land Plats Book B, 1818-1837, p 196. This land was on Crooked Creek.
1830 Emanuel County Georgia Census: Lemon Wesley with one male 15-20, one
male 60-70, and one female 60-70. Next door is Evans Wesley. In the near
vicinity is Steven Swain, probable father of Mary Swain, Lemon's second wife.
Matthew Yates was the administrator of the will of Evans Wesley. Matthew's
brother William Yates married Elizabeth Wesley. Elizabeth was undoubtedly
Lemon's daughter -- she named a son James Evans Yates, and a daughter Margaret.
Matthew Yates' wife Martha may have been Lemon's daughter as well.
1850 Fayette County Georgia Census: Matthew Yates, 48, wife Martha, 54, children
Lacy 21, Augustus N. 19, living near Margarett Wesley. John Youngblood and
wife Martha (Wesley) were in Fayette County living next to George M. Yates, age
25, wife Martha 22, and daughter Sophrony 2. Matthew Yates, b 4 February 1801, is crediting with discovering the Yates Apple,
once widely grown in Fayette County.
