Arrived in Jameston in 1614 with his brothers, William and Walter, on the Friendship,
which belonged to his cousin William Coxe. William Coxe's father, William Sr., died in the
naval battle with the Spanish Armada in 1588. Another brother, Richard, arrived in
1630.
A family legend says that Thomas was the father of 9 other sons: Asa, Ichabod, Samson,
Jesse, Cary, Rowan, Willis, Oran, and Bartley, who were drowned in the James River by a
slave, and that the names of the dead boys have been passed down in the Cox family from
one generation to the next.
