Georgia Gazette (Savannah newspaper), 8 November 1781: "Died in
Savannah: Thomas Watson, Esq. of St. Paul's Parish" (reported
by Robert McCormick)
Thomas Watson was one of the founders of the Quaker community at Wrightsboro,
Georgia. They came to Georgia in 1768 from Orange County, North Carolina. When
the majority of Quakers moved in the early 1800s the Watsons did not go with
them and over the next 20 years they became members of the Baptist Church.
It is said that Thomas Watson moved from Wrightsboro to Savannah because of his
Tory leanings prior to 1776.
