Religious affiliation: Baptist. He was a charter member of the Baptist Church of Enterprise (later First Baptist Church). "Brother W. E. Heath" transferred his membership there from Carthage Baptist Church when he moved from Haw Ridge. Former pastor A. G. Moseley referred to him in a sermon in 1951 as "one of my regular standby members." (The History of First Baptist Church, by Brady R. Justice)

Military Service: WBTS. Barbiere's Battalion [a/k/a Davenport's Battalion], Brown's Company, Alabama Cavalry, Local Defense Troops. The affidavits provided by A. B. Mizell and Judge C.A.B. Edwards for W. E. Heath's Confederate Pension state that he served until he was detailed to go home and make shoes for the Confederate army at Haw Ridge.

1860 Dale County Census shows him residing in Dale County, Newton Post Office, age 26, mechanic, with 200 in Real Estate and 1500 in Personal Property; wife Margaret E. 24, James M. 6, William E. 5, Gabriel M. 3, John J. 2; also in the household are William W. Campbell 25 and Henry W. Averett 19. 
1870 Dale County Census  (Beat 2, Westville): W. E. Heath 37, Carpenter, with 500 in Real Estate and 600 in Personal Property, E.M. 36, James 16, L. B. 13, John 11, Thomas 8, Jeff 7, Frank 6, M. J. 4, M. E. 2, Nancy 3/12, also in household N. S. Heath, 18.
1880 Coffee County Census (Haw Ridge): W. Ellis Heath, 48, Elizabeth 47, lists occupation as 'works in woodshop'; Gabe, 22 (works farm), Bud, 18 (works farm), Jeff, 16 (laborer), Franklin, 14 (laborer), Mary J. 12, I. Newton, 10 (laborer), Nancy E. 7. Next door is his son John, 21, with wife Jennie; next door to John is son James, 27, with wife Nancy, 23, and sons Walton, 4, and Willie, 1.  
1900 Dale County Census (Precinct 2, Westville): Ellis Heath, 68, Sarah 54; lists his occupation as Carpenter

His farm was near the Coffee/Dale County line
