His grandson, Piers Griffith, fought with Drake (in command of his own ship) against the
Armada, and is buried in Westminster Abbey with his wife, Margaret Mostyn. He was
accused of piracy by the Spanish Ambassador, Count Gondomar, and "was so harassed by
prosecution on that account that he was obliged to sell his estate (Penhyrn) in order to
procure his pardon".
