Claybank Church
"In 1829 Elisha Matthews donated a small tract of land near the place where an old Indian trail crossed the Cooley trail as a site for a community church.The first Claybank Church was built during 1829 and 1830.Assisting in the construction were Isaac,Curtis,and Ned Byrd, Billy Martin, John Merrick, and Eli Ruffin. A second church was built on the site in 1852. This structure still stands today, located about 100 yards from the busy intersection of Andrews Avenue and Highway 231."
