It is likely that Doss was named for William Crosby Dawson, a Representative and Senator born in Greene County, Georgia. He was a member of the Georgia State House, elected as a States Rights candidate to the 24th Congress (filling the vacancy created by the death of John Coffee), and was reelected as a Whig, serving from 1836-1841. He presided over the Southern convention in Memphis in 1853 and died in Greensboro in 1856. |
