Enterprise Cotton Mill, c. 1910
Incorporated in 1901, the mill used between six and eight thousand bales of cotton per
year. It was powered by an 8-ft. high Corliss steam engine with a shaft that ran the
length of the building. It contained 6,000 spindles, 36 Lowell cards and 94 belt-driven
looms. The first fabric produced was cotton duck, for cement, fertilizer, and
cotton-picking bags.
